Our Past

Researchers now say that our ancestors have lived on the mainland for over 60 000 years and on the Torres Strait islands for more than 10 000 years.

Aboriginal Australian culture developed a level of stability and continuity thousands of years prior to Europeans arriving. This is the only continent on earth with this level of homogeneity.

Our cave art may be the first example of this art anywhere in the world.
